The US is the third-largest country in the world and is known for its geographic variety, cultural richness and economic strength. From small rural towns to world-renowned urban metropolises, the US is a nation big in opportunity. This diversity is also reflected in its career colleges. Career colleges are private institutions that offer short professional and technical programs (usually 1 to 2 years) to train students for direct employment.
Career colleges are nothing new: alternately known as vocational or technical schools, they have been part of US post-secondary education since the mid 19th century (established in 1841, Duff's Mercantile College--now called Everest Institute--in Pittsburgh is recognized as the oldest private career school in continual operation in the US). Despite their long history and important contribution to society, they are still often overlooked when it comes to student school searches. However, our career colleges have much to offer that the larger institutions can't provide, and so the career colleges have a unique and specialized role within the US's post-secondary education system and should be part of any student's school considerations.
